Me: You suck. How dare you go to Kayson and tattle on me. Grow up. It is not your job to control me. I will never allow some man to control me. I say what I want, I do what I want, and I’d fight tooth and nail before I ever allowed some man to take charge.

I pressed send and then immediately blocked his number again before he had time to reply.

Aiden

I stared at the text message and my seven undelivered messages that followed. Damn her.

For a month, I had tried to figure out what was going on with her, I moved through my apartment to the kitchen but paused when my phone rang. Grabbing it off my counter, I glanced at the caller ID before answering, it was Callum.

“Hey?”

“Eli and I are headed up to Rocco’s Tacos. Want to meet us?”

I debated it, the mood I was in there was no way anyone would enjoy being around me. “I don’t know, I just got home, and to be honest—”

“Yeah, no excuses. Meet us up there in thirty,” Callum all but ordered and then disconnected. Having one older brother was bad enough, but with Eli having married my sister, I had a feeling that I was about to be lectured.

It took about twenty minutes to make my way over to Rocco’s, and when I walked in, I wasn’t shocked that the place was packed. It was happy hour, and Rocco’s was known for their mixed drinks.

Eli and Callum were at the bar, and I took the stool that they so nicely kept empty between them.

“What can I get you?” the bartender asked almost immediately.

“Jameson neat,” I ordered and then dug into the tortillas and salsa that were in front of me. “So, is this when we sing Kumbaya or what?”

Eli chuckled. “I told Callum this was a bad idea. Remember, I said bad idea?” He glanced around me to stare at my brother.

“Whatever.” Callum took a sip of his whiskey just as the bartender set mine in front of me. “Bridget called me today, screaming that you tried to get Harley fired.”

“No, it wasn’t like that. I’m just worried about her.” I tilted my head forward and rested it in one palm while I used my other hand to trail a line around the rim of my glass. “Harley has changed, and I don’t know why.”

“You think maybe it has something to do with you breaking her heart?” Eli asked.

Sitting up straight, I turned to him. “Me break her heart? How do you figure that? She broke mine. You don’t get it, I’m in love with her.”

“Whoa,” Callum said sotto voce.

“Then why did you write that letter?” Eli asked.

“What letter?” Callum and I both asked in unison.

“Bridget is going to kill me, you know that? I may be sleeping on your couch once I tell you this, but you deserve to know.” Eli downed his beer and set the bottle on the far edge of the bar, letting the bartender know he wanted another one.
